Assignment 2: Evaluate the Veracity of an Article
Today´s assignment is to evaluate the veracity, or truthfulness and accuracy, of an article in 6 or more sentences. After reading the article, find the author´s claim and state it in a sentence. A claim usually appears at the beginning of an article - put what the author says into your own words. Then examine the evidence the author uses to support the claim. After, evaluate the author´s claim and state whether you think the evidence supports the claim. Finally, suggest a claim that would better fit the author´s evidence.
Example: In the September 5th issue of Tabloid magazine, author Jimmy Cricket states white pants are the only pants to wear this season. To support his claim, Cricket names three popular actors who were seen wearing white pants that week, and describes a Milan runway that showcased white pants. Although Cricket´s evidence shows that rich and famous people find white pants fashionable, it does not prove that other types and colors of pants are unacceptable. His claim would better be stated as, ¨white pants are fashionable for the rich and famous¨.

Assignment 3: Your Weekend
Today´s journal question is: What exciting things did you do this past weekend?
After seeing Pablo Neruda´s house, my brother and stepfather decided to play near the rocks by the ocean. My brother put his shoes on a rock and began walking on the sand. Suddenly, a large wave came up and took his shoes away! Everyone began laughing and screaming as he tried to get his shoes out of the water without becoming soaked. Eventually, he got them out, but he was miserable the rest of the day in soggy sneakers.
Here`s a mural of Pablo Neruda and one of his shipheads (the women at the front of ships; he collected them):
Directions:
1. Make a 100 word post, with a couple of photos, telling about your previous weekend.
2. Include any funny stories or exciting adventures you had
3. Visit 2 classmates´blogs and correct the English from their posts by commenting on their blog.

Helpful hints: You can find a link to everyone´s blog on the righthand corner of Ksenia´s blog. Please choose to comment and correct someone´s blog that hasn´t been already visited by someone else, so everyone can both comment and be commented on!
Example:
My family is visiting me for ten days. This past weekend we went
to Isla Negra, to see Pablo Neruda´s house. I had been to La Chascona, his house in Santiago, so I expected some unusual and exciting things at his Isla Negra house as well. The tour was informative, but went by too fast - we all had questions to ask our guide, but she had to lead another group.

Assignment 1: English Song
This week´s journal question is: What is an English song that you like? To answer, follow the directions below.
Directions:
1. Choose a song you´d like to share & post the lyrics.
2. Above the lyrics, introduce the song - write why you´ve chosen that song and what you like about it (50 words or more).
3. After you post the introduction and lyrics, post a link to the song. You can include an audio or video of the song.
Example:
A song I like is José González´s 2005 cover of ¨Heartbeats.¨ The original is by the mysterious Swedish band The Knife. I found out about the song because of a Sony Bravia commercial that used a fragment of the song to sell television sets. I enjoy both versions of ¨Heartbeats¨, but the video for the Sony Bravia is excellent. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! For more information about The Knife, visit this wikipedia article.
one night to be confused
one night to speed up truth
we had a promise made
four hands and then away
both under influence
we had devine scent
to know what to say
mind is a razorblade
to call for hands of above
to lean on
wouldn't be good enough
for me, no
one night of magic rush
the start a simple touch
one night to push and scream
and then relief
ten days of perfect tunes
the colors red and blue
we had a promise made
we were in love
to call for hands of above
to lean on
wouldn't be good enough
for me, no
to call for hands of above
to lean on
wouldn't be good enough
and you, you knew the hand of the devil
and you, kept us awake with wolfs teeth
sharing different heartbeats
